Design Within Reach closed its Bethesda store over the weekend and workers were clearing out the space Monday.

A sign posted in the store's window states that the furniture retailer has moved to its Georgetown location on M Street. The company opened both the Bethesda and Georgetown locations in 2004.

Design Within Reach is known for its furniture that incorporates elements of modern design. The Bethesda location had a bright showroom filled with colorful furniture that passerby could view through the large windows that line Norfolk Avenue. The Bethesda showroom offered chairs, couches, tables and other furniture items by designers including George Nelson and Herman Miller.

The Stamford, Ct.-based retailer has more than 35 locations in the U.S. and Canada.

The Bethesda location was located at 4828 Saint Elmo Avenue. The building is owned by Bethesda-based Greenhill Capital.
