A Rockville man has been arrested by Montgomery County police for allegedly sexually assaulting a child in Rockville on Thursday, police said in a press release Wednesday afternoon.
Wilmer Alvarado-Gomez, 37, was taken into custody Saturday near his home after the police department’s Special Victims Investigations Division obtained an arrest warrant for him Friday, the release said.
Detectives said there may be other victims and urged anyone with information to contact the department. The release contains a photo of Alvarado-Gomez.
According to police, Alvarado-Gomez allegedly sexually assaulted the child in the area of Parkland Drive in Rockville. He also allegedly sent the child sexually explicit photos.
Alvarado-Gomez faces charges of second-degree rape without consent of a child under 13 and second-degree rape of a child under 14, police said. He is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville.
Digital court records indicate that Alvarado-Gomez is being represented by a public defender.
“At this time, our office is unable to provide comment, except to say that Mr. Alvarado-Gomez is presumed to be innocent of the charges against him and no one should be jumping to any conclusions before we have all the facts,” District Public Defender Sean Muhkerjee said in a statement emailed to Bethesda Today Thursday morning.
According to digital court records, Alvarado-Gomez is expected to appear at a March 21 preliminary hearing in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville.
Police ask anyone with information or who believes they have been victimized by Alvarado-Gomez to contact the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.
