Montgomery County police identified the 51-year-old Gaithersburg driver who was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle collision in Poolesville, according to a Tuesday statement from police.
Marcos Anton Solórzano Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on Whites Ferry Road near the intersection with Partnership Road, police said.
Ramirez was driving a green 2000 Acura Integra eastbound on Whites Ferry Road at roughly 6 p.m. when the car collided with a white 2023 Ford Transit van traveling westbound near the intersection with Partnership Road, according to the police statement. Police, who are investigating the cause of the collision, said Ramirez was trapped in the car.
Responding county police officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews pronounced Ramirez dead after he was extricated from the car, police said. The man who drove the Ford had no reported injuries and remained at the scene, according to the statement. Police did not identify the driver.
A person who identified herself as a close friend of Ramirez posted a GoFundMe to raise money for funeral expenses, repatriation of Ramirez’s body to El Salvador and other financial difficulties Ramirez’s family may face. As of Tuesday morning, the fundraiser collected nearly $14,000 of its $16,000 goal. The GoFundMe organizers didn’t immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
“Marcos was a beloved father, spouse and friend known for his kindness and generosity. He touched the lives of so many,” the GoFundMe post said. “His sudden passing has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled.”
The county police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision and is asking anyone who may have witnessed it to call 240-773-6620.
