Montgomery County police are seeking the public’s help in searching for a man who they believe is the suspect in two armed bank robberies in Kensington in early February, police said Friday morning in a press release.

Police described the suspect as a man with a dark complexion, approximately 50 to 60 years old and between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall. Photos of the man were shared by the police department online and on social media in hopes the public can assist in identifying him.

The first robbery occurred Feb. 1 at the M&T Bank at 10420 Montgomery Ave., according to police. Officers responded to the bank around 11:30 a.m. for the report of an armed bank robbery.

The suspect entered the bank, placed a handgun on the counter and demanded cash, according to police. The bank employee complied and police said the suspect left the bank with an “undisclosed amount of stolen money.”

The second robbery occurred Feb. 7 at the Capital One Bank at 10707 Connecticut Ave., police said. The bank is about a half mile away from the M&T Bank. Officers responded to the bank just after 10 a.m. for the report of an armed bank robbery.

While at Capital One Bank, the suspect “brandished a handgun” and demanded cash from the bank employee, who later complied, police said. The suspect also left the bank with an “undisclosed” amount of money.

After reviewing surveillance footage, county detectives believe the same suspect committed both bank robberies, according to police.

Police spokesperson Casandra Tressler said Friday in an email to Bethesda Today the investigation into the robberies is ongoing. She said the department’s Public Information Office was not aware of other robberies committed by the same suspect.
