A woman was arrested after leading police on a chase through White Oak on Thursday night in a stolen car and crashing that car into another vehicle and two Montgomery County police cruisers, police said Friday in a statement.
Police did not identify the woman or share details about her age or city of residence on Friday. She faces multiple traffic and criminal charges, according to a social media post by Third District Commander Jason Cokinos.
The pursuit began just after 9:30 p.m. when an officer saw a vehicle run a red light and then hit another vehicle in the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Lockwood Drive in White Oak, according to the police statement and Cokinos’s social media post. Shortly after, the vehicle struck the officer’s police cruiser and then left the scene.
According to police radio transmissions, the driver of the vehicle, which was a Honda Civic, backed into the police car after hitting the first vehicle. The officer then pursued the suspect. Police said the vehicle was reported stolen from Prince George’s County.
During the chase, the suspect’s car collided with another county police vehicle and then came to a stop in the area of Cherry Hill Road and Columbia Pike, police said. The location is nearly 3 miles away from the initial crash.
According to the transmissions, the car stopped at approximately 9:40 p.m. When officers approached the vehicle and tried to remove the driver, a small white dog jumped out and ran down the street, one officer told a dispatcher.
Officers arrested the driver shortly after the car stopped. According to the statement, the woman had an outstanding warrant for first-degree burglary. Police did not say in what county the warrant was issued.
Following the pursuit, officers requested Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service paramedics to come to the scene to evaluate the woman and the officers who were in the cruisers that were struck, according to the transmissions.
No officers needed medical attention, but the woman was taken to a local hospital “due to possible drug intoxication,” Cokinos wrote.
According to police, no other injuries were reported.
