Montgomery County farmer Michael Protas may have to pay the entire cost of a $100,000 solar panel project after President Donald Trump’s administration froze funding from the United States Department of Agriculture. Protas is one of many Maryland farmers who are facing difficult situations due to federal funding freezes. [WTOP]  

German shepherd from Bethesda wins herding group in Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show 

Mercedes, a German shepherd from Bethesda handled by Kent Boyles, took home the win in the herding group in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Last year Mercedes also won the herding group category in the AKC National Championship. [Montgomery County Media]  

Joann Fabrics announces closure of 500 stores 

After two bankruptcy filings, Joann Fabrics announced it will close 500 stores across the country. This includes two stores in Gaithersburg and Wheaton, and many others across Maryland and Virginia. [Fox 5]
