Montgomery County police are investigating a shooting in connection with an attempted armed carjacking Tuesday night in Chevy Chase that sent one man to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to radio transmissions and police.
According to radio transmissions, two callers reported a shooting on South Park Ave in the Hills Plaza, a strip of businesses off Wisconsin Avenue. One caller reported a man was shot in the leg and was awake and breathing.
Montgomery County police spokesperson Casandra Tressler said officers responded to the area at about 7:20 p.m. for the report of an attempted carjacking. Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews also responded to the scene, according to radio transmissions.
At roughly 7:45 p.m., an officer reported over radio transmissions that the injury may be a bleed from the femoral artery and the officer and was going to apply a tourniquet. The femoral artery is a large blood vessel that provides blood to lower extremities, according to the National Library of Medicine.
According to radio transmissions, police said at about 7:45 p.m. that there were no direct witnesses to the shooting, but that someone heard a gunshot and saw a white SUV fleeing toward Washington, D.C.
At about 8:15 p.m., police posted on social media that officers were investigating the shooting, and an adult male had been transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Tressler said no suspects are in custody and it is an ongoing investigation.
