One injured in shooting at Georgia Avenue shopping strip in Silver Spring

No suspects in custody after early Friday incident, police say

Montgomery County police are investigating a shooting that injured a man early Friday morning at a Georgia Avenue shopping strip near downtown Silver Spring, police said in a statement.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, no suspects were in custody, according to police.

According to the statement, officers responded at about 4:15 a.m. to the 9000 block of Georgia Avenue for the report of a shooting.

According to police radio transmissions, a person at a nearby Exxon gas station at 9331 Georgia Ave. called 911 to report the shooting. A dispatcher told officers to look for suspects described as three men wearing “all black masks” who fled in a brown Mercedes vehicle heading northbound on Georgia Avenue.

Responding officers found a man suffering gunshot wounds outside of the La Casa Del Mofongo restaurant at 9441 Georgia Ave., according to radio transmissions. The man was “alert and conscious,” one officer told the dispatcher. Later officers requested that a Spanish speaker be sent to the scene.

According to police, the man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
