Maryland Democratic lawmakers with Montgomery County ties, including U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin and U.S. Sens. Angela Alsobrooks and Chris Van Hollen, wrote a letter Monday to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Acting Secretary Dorothy A. Fin on behalf of the Bethesda-based National Institutes of Health. The lawmakers wrote that restrictions on hiring and communications implemented by the Trump administration will “potentially disrupt lifesaving research.” [The Baltimore Sun]

Video: ICE makes pre-dawn arrests in Silver Spring

The Associated Press followed Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers as they made arrests in Silver Spring in the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning. ICE Field Office Director Matthew Elliston told the AP that the officers were searching for specific people who had participated in child pornography, dealing drugs and homicide. [Associated Press]

Some Silver Spring residents resist upcoming Royal Farms location

A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning before the Montgomery County Board of Appeals in Rockville for 11 people who argue that they are “adversely affected by the proposed development” of a Royal Farms at 9475 Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring. The 147-page filing cites such “adverse effects” as “lighting, noise, smell, and vermin that would be generated by the proposed use.” [Source of the Spring]
