Nash & Smashed, a halal eatery serving Nashville hot chicken sandwiches and smash burgers, has opened its first Montgomery County location in Silver Spring’s Woodmoor Shopping Center.

Owner Zayan Abassi told Bethesda Today on Monday afternoon the shop at 10121 Colesville Road officially opened Friday and is in a soft-opening mode. Source of the Spring first reported the restaurant’s opening.

The opening comes about four months after the restaurant was originally slated to open in early to mid-September. According to Abassi, the delay in opening came down to “technical issues” in the eatery involving the restaurant’s contractor and county inspections.

Now, everything is “solved” and “good to go,” Abassi said.

While the restaurant’s opening has not been announced on social media, Abassi said the response from the community has been “amazing.”

“We are receiving a lot of people every single day and [the] response is very good, even better than the other locations,” Abassi said.

The new eatery is in the former home of a longtime Subway sandwich shop and between Bento, a Japanese restaurant, and the Woodmoor Cleaners.

Aside from hot chicken sandwiches and smash burgers, the menu includes fried chicken tenders and wings, mac and cheese, waffle fries and mocktails. According to the Nash & Smashed website, the eatery uses high-quality, local ingredients in its products.

In August, Abassi told Bethesda Today he chose to open a location in Woodmoor Shopping Center because he has always liked the busyness of the center at the intersection of Colesville Road and University Boulevard.

Abassi also noted that he looked forward to being in an area with plenty of other eateries and transit options, as well near Montgomery Blair High School, which is about a block away on an opposite corner of the intersection.

The eatery’s opening came with slight change in name from Nash & Smash. Abassi said the change stemmed from the company’s expansion and franchising endeavors and avoiding possible conflicts with other brands with similar names.

“We just want to avoid any type of conflict with anyone else,” Abassi said.

Nash & Smashed operates locations in Manassas, Virginia, and in a gas station on Connecticut Avenue near Washington, D.C.’s Chevy Chase neighborhood. The eatery plans to open seven more locations in Virginia and two more in Maryland.

Abassi said Monday the business is also planning to expand abroad in England and is in the process of opening locations in London.

For the Silver Spring location, a grand opening celebration is expected to be announced in a month or so, Abassi said.
