Dozens of firefighters from across Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties honored Chris Higgins, a Montgomery County firefighter who died on duty, during a Thursday memorial service at a Glen Burnie church. Higgins’ family, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Chief Corey Smedley were in attendance. [WJLA]

Transnational gang member sentenced to 40 years for Rockville shooting

After a 2021 Rockville shooting that killed one person, 21-year-old Cesar De La O Rodriguez, an El Salvadorian citizen, was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Rodriguez was a member of the “transnational criminal street gang known as 18th Street.” [DC News Now]

Wheaton Ice Arena to close in April for refrigeration system updates

Montgomery County Parks announced that Wheaton Ice Arena will temporarily close from mid-April to early October while it undergoes updates to its refrigeration system. Cabin John Ice Rink will add programs to make up for lost availability. [Source of the Spring]
