Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will open on time Thursday, reversing a decision from earlier in the week to delay opening by two hours, according to a Wednesday afternoon statement from the school district.

On Tuesday, the district announced a two-hour delay for Wednesday and Thursday citing “frigid temperatures and icy conditions.” MCPS said Wednesday that “better-than-expected road conditions” and the “outstanding efforts” of MCPS staff to clear ice, schools and offices would open on time Thursday.

“While this reversal of our decision may cause some confusion,” The statement said, “this is truly an MCPS Moment of Joy, as we look forward to returning to the energy and excitement of full-time teaching and learning!”
