A pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday evening by a Metro train traveling between the North Bethesda and Twinbrook stations, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer.
Piringer wrote on social media at about 5:20 p.m. that MCFRS crews were responding to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck and was trapped under a train.
At about 6 p.m. he wrote the pedestrian, who was not identified, suffered traumatic injuries and did not survive the incident that occurred in a tunnel between the stations.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Emergency Response Team and Metro Transit Police were on the scene, he said.
Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Metro Transit Police wrote on social media that officers were “actively working a recovery mission for a trespasser struck by a train at North Bethesda.”
Following the incident, trains were single-tracking between the Twinbrook and Grosvenor stations, the post said. Riders can check http://wmata.com/MetroPulse for updates.
