Winter storm watch issued for Montgomery County for Sunday

Heavy snow, wind gusts up to 45 mph expected in northwest portion of county

Montgomery County is expected to get another round of snow on Sunday with forecasts predicting snowfall from 1 to 6 inches around the county, the National Weather Service said Friday afternoon.

A winter storm watch was issued for the county from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, the county Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS) said on social media Friday.

County Fire and Rescue Service Public Information Officer Pete Piringer said on social media Friday that a winter storm watch means a storm is possible and a winter storm warning means a storm is occurring or will soon occur.

According to the weather service, which issued the winter storm watch for the northwest portion of the county from Sunday morning into the evening, heavy snow and wind gusts as high as 45 mph are possible.

The storm comes about a week after the county experienced its first large snowstorm of the year, which dropped up to 8.3 inches of precipitation across the county. With persistent cold temperatures keeping much of the snow from melting, the upcoming storm may add another layer to the icy and hardened snow already on the ground.

Drivers are advised to expect hazardous, slippery road conditions.

Other areas of the county are also expected to experience snowfall, with 1 to 3 inches predicted due to rain mixing in with the snow, according to the weather service.

During the snowstorm, air temperatures will sit in the upper 20s and low to mid 30s, the weather service said.
