A 47-year-old Bethesda woman remained hospitalized in critical condition Friday following a pedestrian collision in Rockville Thursday night, according to Rockville City police Lt. Dan Romeril.
The collision occurred just before 6:50 p.m. on the 700 block of Hungerford Drive near Frederick Avenue, Romeril told Bethesda Today on Friday. Romeril said the woman was crossing the southbound lanes of Hungerford Drive outside of a crosswalk when she was struck by a sports utility vehicle.
Romeril did not provide further information about the woman.
Rockville City police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to the collision shortly after it occurred. According to Romeril, the vehicle’s driver remained at the scene. He did not say if the driver was taken into custody.
The woman suffered life-threatening injuries, MCFRS Public Information Officer Pete Piringer said in a social media post Thursday night. She was transported by MCFRS crews to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, according to Romeril.
Following the collision, all southbound lanes on Hungerford Drive at Frederick Avenue were closed to traffic. The lanes reopened about two hours later around 9 p.m., Montgomery police said in a social media post.
The Rockville incident was the second pedestrian collision in the county Thursday evening following a collision in downtown Bethesda.
At approximately 6:04 p.m. officers responded to the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Cheltenham Drive or the report of bicyclist struck by a motor vehicle, police said in an email statement.
The bicyclist was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Police did not say if the driver was taken into custody.
