Montgomery County police charged a Kensington man Tuesday with second-degree murder in connection with a Monday evening shooting that left a 29-year-old man dead, according to a Tuesday statement from police.
Benjamin Jack Dresbach, 21, is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville after being arrested in connection with the death of Trevor Dean Van Devander of Sykesville at Dresbach’s home, police said.
As of Tuesday night, online court records didn’t have a lawyer listed for Dresbach.
According to the statement, police were dispatched at roughly 5:40 p.m. to the 3900 block of Franklin Street in Kensington for the report of a shooting. The location is between Kensington Parkway and Connecticut Avenue.
According to radio transmissions, the caller told a dispatcher that he shot his friend in the shoulder and his friend wasn’t breathing. Police said in Tuesday’s statement that an altercation between Dresbach and Van Devander led to the shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located Van Devander with gunshot wounds, the statement said. Van Devander was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to radio transmissions, the caller left the weapon in the house and walked outside to meet police officers.
Van Devander has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death, according to police.
