Montgomery County police are investigating a shooting Monday evening at a home in the 3900 block of Franklin Street in Kensington that left one person dead, according to police and radio transmissions.
Police and crews from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) were dispatched at roughly 5:40 p.m. to the location just off Kensington Parkway after a caller reported that he shot his friend in the shoulder and his friend wasn’t breathing, according to radio transmissions.

The scene is secure and one person is in custody.

The caller also told the dispatcher there were four people in the house: the caller, the caller’s dad and brother and the victim, according to transmissions.
Responding officers found a man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a statement Monday night.
At 8 p.m., police posted on social media that the incident “is now a death investigation, not a confirmed homicide at this time.”
According to radio transmissions, the caller left the weapon in the house and walked outside to meet police officers. As of roughly 6 p.m., officers on the scene confirmed to dispatchers over the radio that the suspect was in custody.
The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death, police said in the statement.
