Montgomery County detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a Hispanic man who suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by at least one vehicle Tuesday night in Silver Spring, police said Wednesday in a statement.

The man was transported by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews to an area hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Wednesday, police said.

According to police, officers and MCFRS crews responded shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a pedestrian struck by at least one vehicle while crossing University Boulevard at East Franklin Avenue. The statement did not say whether the vehicle or vehicles that struck the man remained on the scene.

Police said the man who was struck is in his early 30s and he was wearing jeans, a black jacket, and a black shirt. He is believed to reside in “the area near East Franklin Avenue,” the statement said.

Detectives urge anyone who may recognize the man’s description or whose loved one is missing to call 301-279-8000, which is the police department’s non-emergency phone number.

After the collision, all westbound lanes of University Boulevard East were closed at East Franklin Avenue, according to the Montgomery County of Emergency Management & Homeland Security. The lanes had reopened by about 9:30 p.m.
