December 27, 2024 7:02 p.m.

Wrapping up with a momentous presidential election, 2024 was a year in which much happened in local political news. The year’s top Montgomery County stories ranged from the success of a term-limit referendum, which prevents County Executive Marc Elrich from running for a third term, to the ouster of three school board members by voters looking for more accountability.

On the state and national level, Potomac resident and Democrat April McClain Delaney won a highly competitive race to represent Maryland’s 6th Congressional District and Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks (D) easily defeated former Republican Gov. Larry Hogan for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the retirement of Ben Cardin (D-Baltimore).
