Woman fatally struck by vehicle in Burtonsville Giant Food parking lot

Pedestrian was ‘pinned under’ car; extricated by county fire and rescue service personnel

A woman died Thursday morning after she was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Giant Food grocery store in Burtonsville, Montgomery County police said in a statement Thursday.

Just before 11:15 a.m., 911 dispatch received a call from a person who reported that “a vehicle ran over a female,” according to police transmissions. The dispatcher later told officers that the pedestrian was “pinned under a silver Mazda.”

Police, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) and Howard County Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the parking lot at 15618 Old Columbia Pike, according to the statement.

According to radio transmissions, first responders extricated the woman from under the car by 11:22 a.m., according to radio transmissions, later adding that a 37-year-old woman was being transported by Howard County personnel to a shock trauma center. She later died, police said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, police said. Police have not released more identifying information about the woman pending notification of next of kin.
