Montgomery County police are investigating the death of a man early Monday in downtown Silver Spring as a homicide, according to a statement.
Officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded at about 3:30 a.m. to the 8000 block of Georgia Avenue for the report of “a person down,” police said Monday morning.
Officers found a man with “trauma to the body,” the statement said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Major Crimes Division is investigating the death of an adult male found in the 8000 block of Georgia Ave as a homicide. The road is shut down at Sligo Ave.

The man is expected to be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death, according to the statement.
After the shooting, all travel lanes at Georgia Avenue at East-West Highway were closed as police were on the scene to investigate, according to a social media post early Monday morning.
Around 8:40 a.m. the Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination program announced on social media that one northbound lane on Georgia Avenue at Sligo Avenue had reopened but all southbound lanes and one northbound lane remain blocked.
Just before 11:30 a.m., all lanes on Georgia Avenue from East-West Highway to Sligo Avenue reopened to vehicle traffic, according to a social media post from the Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security.
