Montgomery County police are investigating thefts from CVS Pharmacy, Target and Gap stores in Chevy Chase and Bethesda between Aug.11 and Nov. 24 involving 10 suspects, according to a Wednesday statement.
According to the statement, on nine occasions the suspects allegedly took merchandise without paying from CVS Pharmacy stores at 3820 Chaplin Place in Chevy Chase and 7809 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda, a Target at 6831 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda and a Gap at 5430 Wisconsin Ave. in Chevy Chase.
In surveillance videos released by police, the suspects, often two at a time, can be seen grabbing merchandise from shelves and putting it in large bags. The suspects then leave the stores with the bags without paying.
This tactic has been used in Montgomery County before. In November, four men were indicted for their roles in “flash-mob style” thefts across Maryland in which several individuals would enter a store, fill bags or their arms with merchandise and then leave.
The police released photos of the 10 suspects in the local thefts and are asking the public for information regarding the suspects or crimes.
