Silver Spring’s Tastee Diner plans have date with county’s Development Review Committee

The second act for the Silver Spring’s Tastee Diner is moving along with a Dec. 17 date set with the county’s Development Review Committee. The iconic eatery closed abruptly in March 2023 after more than 70 years in business. Roadside Development of Washington, D.C., submitted planning documents that would maintain the diner’s stainless-steel canopy and the North, East and West facades of the diner car while replacing the glass block base with stone. Impending Dickerson incinerator closure draws reaction

Last week, the Montgomery County government announced that it was extending its current contract with a contractor for trash incinerator services at its Dickerson facility until 2031 while it considers environmentally friendly options. Steven Findlay, president of the Sugarloaf Citizens Association, told WTOP that the sooner the facility closes the better: “We’d would like to see the incinerator closed in the next three to four years.” [WTOP]

Blair High boys soccer coach receives ESPN W accolades

In November, Allie Coyle coached the Montgomery Blair High School’s boys soccer team to a state championship. With the Silver Spring team’s victory, Coyle became first woman to coach a boys soccer team to a state championship.
