A woman was killed in a fire that started early Tuesday morning in a home on White’s Ferry Road in Boyds, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer.
Piringer said in a video posted on social media that the death was the fourth fatal fire in Montgomery County this year. The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.

MCFRS crews responded around midnight to a report of a house fire in the 16600 block of White’s Ferry Road, Piringer said. Neighbors reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the house and firefighters faced heavy fire conditions upon arrival.
Neighbors also reported that there was an occupant in the home. Firefighters initially rescued a dog, and at about 4 a.m. found one deceased adult on the second floor, Piringer said.

The victim’s identity was not released pending notification of the next of kin, he said.
Piringer said rescue efforts were hampered by excessive clutter or storage in the home. No monetary estimate of damage caused by the fire was provided.
MCFRS will be returning to the community in the 16600 block of White’s Ferry Road on Tuesday at 3 p.m. to offer smoke alarm checks or to answer any home safety questions, according to Piringer.
