One person died after being trapped in a burning car and four others were injured in a two-vehicle collision early Friday on southbound I-270 in Bethesda, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) officials.
MCFRS crews responded about 4:30 a.m. to the report of a “vehicle with entrapment” on the highway in the area of Rockledge Drive, between the I-270 spur and Old Georgetown Road, spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media.
Firefighters found one vehicle in a “fully involved” fire with a person trapped inside “with life-threatening injuries,” Piringer wrote. That person was pronounced dead at the scene. Crews transported four others with trauma injuries to a local hospital.
No information was provided on the identity of the person who died.

Southbound I-270 was closed after the collision. As of 7:45 a.m. Friday, two lanes remained closed and one lane had reopened near Exit 1 at Old Georgetown Road, according to county officials. Drivers should expect delays.
All southbound lanes had reopened by 8:30 a.m.
