The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security has declared an Extreme Cold Alert until 8 a.m. Friday. An alert is issued when the county expects that temperatures and/or wind chill values will be at or below 32 degrees. [DC News Now]

County police hunt for impaired drivers during holidays

As the holiday season gets underway, members of the Montgomery County Police Alcohol Holiday Task Force are on the lookout for impaired drivers. Kicking off their season Nov. 20, officers and deputies involved in the task force made 29 arrests for driving under the influence during the first week of operations, according to officials. [WJLA]

Former beauty queen in Chevy Chase gets new sash at age 96

The staff at a Chevy Chase assisted living community presented one of their residents, 96-year-old former Miss California Laura Jean Emery, with a new sash to replace the one she lost over the years after she won the beauty contest in 1947. [The Washington Post]
