A New York City man has been arrested for scamming a Bethesda couple out of $400,000 in the latest in a string of gold bar scams that have been plaguing Montgomery County residents. Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy has called the scams. “organized crime at the highest level.” Seven Montgomery County victims were identified over the summer as victims of gold bar scams, accounting for $6.3 million worth of gold. Police crack down on DUIs during the holidays
