A person was fatally struck Sunday night by a train on the CSX railroad tracks in the area of Game Preserve Road between Gaithersburg and Germantown, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).
As of 7 p.m., train traffic was halted between Gaithersburg and Germantown, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media.
Game Preserve Road was closed between Route 355 and Clopper Road, county police wrote on social media at about 7 p.m. “This will be an extended closure. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route,” police said.
Piringer said MCFRS crews responded to a report of a person struck. The crews evaluated one person “with traumatic injury” on the tracks. “The person did not survive,” he said.
The train had stopped and police were on the scene, Piringer said.
