Tatte Bakery & Café is expected to open Wednesday in Bethesda’s Westbard Square shopping center, marking the chain’s second location in the community, according to the chain’s post on Instagram.
Tatte is a fast-casual restaurant specializing in baked goods, pastries, soups, sandwiches, breakfast foods, Mediterranean fare and coffee drinks. The Westbard eatery will be at 5400 Westbard Ave. on the shopping center’s ground level and next to the future Piccoli Piatti Pizzeria restaurant.
The opening of the Westbard location comes three years after the opening of the chain’s first Montgomery County location at 7276 Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Bethesda.
Israeli pastry chef Tzurit Or opened the original Tatte in Boston in 2007. The company now operates 26 locations in the Boston area and 15 locations in the Washington, D.C., region, with the most recent opening on Nov. 13 in Annapolis.
The Westbard location held a soft opening Monday for family and friends, according to Tatte’s website.
The shopping center is undergoing redevelopment with the first phase of construction complete and the second phase poised to be finished in 2027. The two-phase 23-acre project at Westbard Avenue and Ridgefield Road will include 148,000 square feet of retail and a 116-unit assisted living facility under construction by Kensington Senior Living.
Regency Center Corp. – the company behind the redevelopment – announced in February that Tatte had signed onto a lease for space in the shopping center. Silver and Sons BBQ, District DabbleLab, Stretch Zone and Westbard Dental were also announced as future tenants of Westbard Square.
Westbard Square’s first phase included a new Giant Food store, which opened earlier this year with a Ledo Pizza Corner Shoppe inside.
