California Fish Grill, a West Coast restaurant chain serving a variety of fish and seafood options, is opening its first East Coast location in Rockville in June, according to marketing director Joanna Ferraro.
“We can’t wait to offer delicious, 100% sustainable seafood, to our new neighbors in Montgomery County!” Ferraro wrote in an email to MoCo360 Friday.
The restaurant will be opening at 12238 Rockville Pike, the former space of Five Guys. Boston Market was slated to open in that location, but the plans never came to fruition, according to the MoCo Show, which also was first to report the California Fish Grill arrival.
Among the eatery’s expected offerings are a handful of grilled seafood dishes such as ahi tuna, sea bass, giant shrimp, tilapia and salmon, according to the menu. Most dishes come with a bed of rice and a side of fresh vegetables. The eatery also serves bowls, fish sandwiches and wraps, fish and shrimp tacos, salads and fried seafood.
According to the restaurant’s website, California Fish Grill only serves seafood rated as “Best Choice or Good Alternative by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program of eco-certified by a third party.”
Several types of seafood served by the restaurant are wild-caught such as its yellowfin tuna, sockeye salmon, clams and squid, according to the restaurant’s website.
For the farm-raised seafood, such as Louisiana Delta catfish, tilapia, shrimp and sea bass, the restaurant is committed to “working with certified sustainable fisheries” when possible, the website states.
