Marriott to lay off 833 employees in January 

Bethesda-based Marriott International is slated to lay off 833 employees in early January, according to a Maryland Work Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed by the company Thursday. The layoffs come amid restructuring plans at the company. [WTOP

Whitman High girls soccer team makes history  

The girls soccer team at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda set a record after winning state championships four years in a row. The final game this year was played at Loyola University in Baltimore. [Montgomery County Media]  

Sunday fire at U.S. Navy Carderock Facility 

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said crews were dispatched to building 4 at the U.S. Navy Carderock facility in Bethesda on Sunday for a fire on the second floor of the building. The fire was extinguished. [DC News Now
