A 17-year-old boy with an active arrest warrant for failing to appear in court was arrested Nov. 8 in Rockville while allegedly carrying a loaded firearm and 250 suspected fentanyl pills, Montgomery County police said Friday in a statement.
The teen was charged with possession of a firearm and drugs with the intent to distribute, the statement said.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, officers observed the teen whom they knew to have an active warrant in the 5500 block of Besley Court. When officers approached, the teen “took off running and attempted to pull a loaded Glock 17 from his waistband,” according to the statement. Officers “quickly” apprehended the teen and took him into custody, the statement said.
The statement did not provide the teen’s name or details about the court case leading to the arrest warrant.
After arresting the teen, officers searched him and found he was carrying 250 blue “M30” suspected fentanyl pills and cash, police said. The statement did not say how much cash the teen was carrying.
The teen was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville, where he was charged. He remains in custody at the central processing unit, police said.
According to police spokesperson Shiera Goff, the teen was charged as an adult.
The arrest came nearly a week after the Nov. 1 arrest of a 16-year-old teen who was allegedly carrying 432 suspected fentanyl pills in Glenmont. In a Nov. 8 statement, police described the confiscated drugs as “M30” pills.
The 16-year-old boy was charged with possession of drugs with intent to sell, according to police. He was referred to the county’s Department of Juvenile Services and then released to a guardian, the statement said.
