Pedestrian dies from injuries sustained in Rockville collision

County police investigating Oct. 30 incident

A 28-year-old Gaithersburg man died Monday from injuries he sustained when he was struck by a car on Oct. 30 while trying to cross Veirs Mill Road in Rockville, Montgomery County police said Wednesday in a statement.

Detectives are investigating the collision involving Luis Rios Chirinos and a black Lexus GS that occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the 12700 block of Veirs Mill Road between Robindale Drive and Arbutus Avenue, according to the statement and the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

The driver of the Lexus remained at the location and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

Chirinos’ injuries were classified as Priority 1, which, according to Maryland protocols, is defined as a “critically ill or injured person requiring immediate attention; unstable patients with life-threatening injury or illness.” He was transported to a local hospital, according to police.
