A 22-year-old Silver Spring man is free on bond after his arrest Thursday on drug and firearm possession charges following the delivery of a “suspicious” package to a county resident’s home, according to Montgomery County police.
Kalani Ayi Abdulfata Ariyibi-Sani was charged with possession of drugs and a firearm, county police said Friday in a statement. According to digital court records, Ariyibi-Sani posted a $10,000 bond on Saturday.
On Thursday, officers responded to the 1300 block of Alderton Drive for the report of a suspicious package containing drugs that had been delivered to a homeowner, according to the statement.
The statement did not say what time police responded to the report. Police did not immediately respond to MoCo360’s email inquiries on Monday regarding the time of the incident.
Upon arrival at the home, officers looked at video surveillance that showed “multiple suspects with flashlights, searching in the homeowner’s yard,” the statement said. Afterward, officers “quickly located” two male suspects and a female suspect who were still in the yard.
According to police, one of the male suspects ran from the yard and the second male suspect, Ariyibi-Sani, was arrested. He allegedly had a loaded gun concealed in his jacket, police said.
Ariyibi-Sani allegedly also had more than 100 Xanax pills, cannabis, two digital scales and a bottle of Promethazine in his possession, according to police. Promethazine is a medication used to prevent symptoms of hayfever, motion sickness and nausea, according to Mayo Clinic. It also has sedative uses.
Following his arrest, Ariyibi-Sani was transported to the county’s central processing unit in Rockville and was charged with the drug and firearms charges.
According to digital court records, Ariyibi-Sani is facing charges of having a loaded handgun on person, having a handgun on person, having a detached magazine with more than 10 rounds, possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to distribute – all misdemeanor charges.
The female suspect was also arrested and found to be in possession of drugs, police said. She was transported to the county’s central processing unit and charged with possession of drugs, according to the police statement.
The statement did not say the female suspect’s name, age and area of residence.
Police did not immediately respond to MoCo360’s email requests for comment on the second male suspect and the identity of the female suspect.
