Two Germantown men and a 16-year-old Olney boy are facing charges of attempted second-degree murder and assault in connection with a Thursday evening shooting that seriously injured another boy, 17, in Montgomery Village, Montgomery County police said Friday in a statement.
Terrence Stover, 20, and Tyriq Roberts Hawkins, 19, both of Germantown, and the 16-year-old were apprehended and arrested Thursday night after a police pursuit in Gaithersburg that followed the shooting in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle, police said.
Stover, Hawkins and the 16-year-old were taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, according to police. The 16-year-old was charged as an adult. All three are being held without bond.
Attorney information for Stover and Hawkins was not available on Maryland’s digital court records database Friday afternoon.
According to the police statement, officers patrolling the area of Spiceberry Circle shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday observed the three suspects exit a gray Honda Odyssey minivan parked in front of an apartment building.
Shortly after the suspects entered the building, one of the suspects allegedly shot a 17-year-old boy inside the building, police said. Then the suspects left the scene in the minivan.
A county police officer who witnessed the incident called the shooting into dispatch, according to police radio transmissions. “I saw them do a shooting, at least first-degree assault, they just turned” on Mid-County Highway, the officer said just before 5 p.m.
According to police, officers provided life-saving measures to the victim until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews arrived and transported him to an area hospital.
According to the transmissions and police, the 17-year-old was shot multiple times and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
After the shooting, officers attempted to pull over the suspects in the minivan, which was “driving erratically through several neighborhoods and [on] I-270,” the statement said.
During the pursuit, the minivan hit a school bus, which officers said was likely “unoccupied,” according to transmissions.
As police chased the suspects, officers noted the car had a flat tire and was beginning to slow down, according to the transmissions. Near the area of Longdraft and Clopper roads, the suspects bailed out of the car, police said.
After the suspects left the car, police chased them on foot while other officers “established a perimeter” in the area and searched for them, according to the police statement and radio transmissions.
Around 5:12 p.m., officers reported one person was in custody, according to radio transmissions. Another suspect wearing all black and a ski mask had bailed out of the minivan and jumped over a fence to evade police, according to transmissions.
At 5:25 p.m., police officers announced they had all three suspects in custody and canceled the call for a helicopter.
“All suspects were apprehended,” one officer said over transmissions.
