A white car crashed through the railing of a parking garage roof and plunged about 40 feet to the ground Wednesday morning in Friendship Heights, according to a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) official.

The driver of the car survived the drop and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, MCFRS Public Information Officer Pete Piringer wrote on social media.

The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. at The Barlow, a medical office building at 5454 Wisconsin Ave., according to Piringer’s post. The car fell from the fifth floor of The Barlow’s parking garage and landed wheels up on the sidewalk next to the loading dock and parking garage entrance.

After the fall, the driver self-extricated from the vehicle, Piringer said. The driver was classified as a Priority 2 patient and was taken to a local hospital.

A Priority 2 designation is assigned to patients in “less serious conditions” than a Priority 1, but with potentially life-threatening injuries or illnesses, requiring emergency medical attention, according to the Maryland Medical Protocols for Emergency Medical Services Providers.

Piringer did not share additional information about the age or gender of the drive or what may have caused the crash. He did not immediately respond to MoCo360’s calls requesting more information.

No other injuries were reported.
