Trader Joe’s, the grocery store known for its seasonal products and employees wearing Hawaiian shirts, will open another location in Rockville, according to Trader Joe’s spokesperson Nakia Rohde.

The California-based grocery chain will be taking over the former Dawson’s Market location at 225 N. Washington St. in Rockville Town Square, according to a series of commercial, mechanical, occupancy and plumbing permits filed with the City of Rockville on Oct. 10. The market closed in June.

On Monday, the MoCo Show first reported the upcoming opening of the Rockville Town Center Trader Joe’s and the filing of the permits.

In an email Monday to MoCo360, Rohde confirmed only that Trader Joe’s would be opening another store in Rockville, but said she did not have a “location or timeline confirmed.”

The new store would be the second one in the Rockville area; another location is nearly 3 miles away at 12268-H Rockville Pike in the Federal Plaza shopping center.

On Monday, construction crews could be seen working in the gutted market space. The new store would be the chain’s sixth location in Montgomery County. Two other locations are in Bethesda, one is in North Potomac and another is in Silver Spring.

E. P. Guidi Inc., a Pennsylvania-based construction company, is currently working on the space, according to a banner with the company’s name hanging on the storefront. The company has been in charge of construction projects and build-outs of more than a dozen other Trader Joe’s locations on the East Coast, according to its website.
