Plumbing repairs at Woodley Gardens shopping center in Rockville have forced the closure potentially until Halloween of several of its businesses, including the Hard Times Cafe, Z&Z Manoushe Bakery and Carmen’s Italian Ice, the eateries posted on social media and online.
JCR Companies, the management company for the Woodley Gardens shopping center, also could not be reached for comment early Friday evening.
Carmen’s Italian Ice wrote in a Friday post that Woodley Gardens on Nelson Street “has been having major plumbing issues outside the shopping center and they are finally trying to fix it properly.”
The post said the shop, at 115 Nelson Street, would be closed starting Friday and until at least Halloween while the repairs are completed.
“The landlord’s recommendation was for tenants to contact their insurance company. We were notified of the shutdown yesterday afternoon,” the post said. “UGH, UGH, UGH.”
Other locations of Carmen’s Italian Ice in Olney, Kensington, Clarksburg and Kentlands remain open.
Hard Times Cafe wrote on social media that the eatery known for its chili and wings would be “forced to close” until Oct. 31 due to repairs underway in the parking lot.
“Appreciate all the support and hope to be back in full force soon!” the restaurant wrote in a social media post on Friday morning.
Z&Z Manoushe Bakery, a Middle Eastern bakery at 1111 Nelson St., also wrote on social media Friday that it had to close because of a “plumbing repair emergency” at the shopping center.
“As of now, we’re being informed it will be for up to a week,” the bakery wrote in a post.
Shanghai Taste, a Chinese restaurant at 1121 Nelson St., provided callers with a voicemail greeting that said it was closed until Oct. 31 due to repairs.
The Woodley Gardens Veterinary Care clinic appeared to remain open despite the ongoing repairs. A secretary at the clinic declined to comment on the plumbing issues but said the facility was open.
Other businesses in the center could not be reached for comment early Friday evening.
