Montgomery County detectives charged a 48-year-old man Tuesday with murder in connection with the death of his father at their Silver Spring home, according to authorities.
Fabian Newsome was charged with first-degree murder in Monday’s death of his father, David Newsome, 88, following his arrest by the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, police said Tuesday night in a statement. He is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville.
Attorney information for Fabian Newsome was not available in court records Wednesday morning.
Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews were dispatched to the 12000 block of Sandalwood Lane around 6:55 p.m. Monday for the report of a woman screaming, according to police radio transmissions. Police arrived and found David Newsome “dead, with apparent trauma to his body,” according to Tuesday’s statement.
Police initially thought the man’s death was a suicide, noting on radio transmissions that the man had a cord wrapped around his neck and that there was also “a lot of blood” at the scene. At roughly 7:10 p.m., an officer dispatched to the incident asked over the radio for the on-call homicide detective to contact the officers at the scene.
Detectives identified Fabian Newsome as a suspect during an investigation, police said in the Tuesday release.
According to police, David Newsome man was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be conducted to officially determine the cause and manner of death.
