Metro Transit Police are investigating a rape that allegedly occurred early Wednesday at the Silver Spring Transit Center, according to authorities.
Shortly after 1 a.m., Metro Transit police officers responded to a report of a rape at the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center at 8404 Colesville Road, transit police said Wednesday in a statement.
The woman told police that she knew the suspect and had interacted with him on Tuesday, according to police. The suspect later located the victim at the transit center and sexually assaulted her, the statement said.
Police did not say where in the transit center the rape occurred.
Metro Transit police are urging anyone with any information regarding the incident to call the department at 202-962-2121.
The incident was first reported as an “armed rape” by DMV News Live on X.
Metro police did not immediately respond to questions asking whether the suspect was armed and for information on the victim’s condition.
