Rockville City Police have arrested and charged a 28-year-old man believed to be responsible for stabbing two people near the Twinbrook Metro Station in Rockville on Oct. 13, according to police.

Muhammad Ibrahim Adam of Rockville was arrested Wednesday afternoon at Rockville City Police Headquarters, according to Jason West, the department’s public information officer. West said Adam came to the headquarters to speak with detectives and was “subsequently arrested.”

Adam was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment, West said in a statement Wednesday. Digital court records regarding Adam’s charges and legal representation were not immediately available Wednesday evening.

On Oct. 13, at around 5:30 p.m., police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews were dispatched to 1700 Chapman Ave. on the west side of the Metro station for the report of a man stabbed in the back, according to police radio transmissions. Additional first responders were dispatched to a report of another stabbing at 1560 Rockville Pike about three minutes later.

Upon arrival at the location of the first stabbing, officers said over the radio that they found a man who was alert, conscious and “bleeding profusely from the back.” According to radio transmissions, the suspect stabbed the victim from behind but did not attempt to rob him.

The locations of the two stabbings are less than a half mile apart and at least one victim was transported to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, according to radio transmissions.

In the days following the stabbings, Rockville police released a photo of a potential suspect on Oct. 14 and Oct. 16 from surveillance footage, seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person of interest. According to Wednesday’s statement, detectives later identified the man and ruled out his involvement.

Through further investigation and partnering with the Metro Transit Police, Rockville detectives “positively” identified a new suspect, Adam, as the individual allegedly responsible, police said.
