Two men have been charged in connection with a September burglary in which more than 20 people reportedly broke into the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Chevy Chase, according to Montgomery County police.
Mandel Greene, 27, of Washington, D.C., and Omar Ross Staley, 21, of Beltsville were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary shortly after a large group broke into the Saks Fifth Avenue Store in the early morning of Sept. 10, police said Monday in a statement.
At roughly 1:10 a.m. that day, police officers responded to the store at 5555 Wisconsin Ave. for the report of a commercial burglary.
According to radio transmissions from the incident, a group of roughly 10 people reportedly broke into the luxury store. An employee of a monitoring service called county police at about 1 a.m. after “a large group” wearing all black, including masks, had broken in, according to the initial radio dispatch.
According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that more than 20 suspects had forced entry into the store, taken merchandise and then left.
Upon arrival, officers observed a group leaving the area of the store and shortly after apprehended Greene and Staley, the statement said.
The two were transported to Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville, where they were charged with second-degree burglary. Both Greene and Staley have been released on unsecured personal bonds, according to the statement.
According to online court records, Greene is being represented by a county public defender. The Montgomery County Office of the Public Defender didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment Monday afternoon. Online court records for Staley were not available.
Detectives continue to search for other suspects involved in the incident. Police are offering up to $10,000 for tips that lead to an arrest. Anyone with information regarding the additional suspects or the burglary is asked to call 1-866-411-8477. Tips with information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward up to $10,000.
