Montgomery County detectives have charged a suspect in connection with the early Sunday death of a 45-year-old Silver Spring man in Wheaton, police said Monday in a statement.
Jose Emilio Ortiz Alba, 30, of Alexandria, Virginia, was charged Sunday with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Hesler Saul Sanchez Cruz.
According to the statement, officers were in the area of University Boulevard and Fern Street when they noticed a truck on the median of University Boulevard. They found Sanchez Cruz inside the truck suffering from an apparent stab wound.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded at roughly 3:25 a.m. and attempted life-saving measures on Sanchez Cruz. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the statement.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore conducted an autopsy and determined his death was a homicide, according to the statement.
Detectives identified Ortiz Alba as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant Sunday. Ortiz Alba was arrested in Virginia and is expected to be extradited to Montgomery County, the statement said.
