Two pedestrians were struck and injured in separate collisions in Montgomery County on Thursday morning, according to authorities.

A pedestrian walking a dog was struck around 7:30 a.m. in the area of Longdraft Road and Pheasant Run Drive in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media. Both the pedestrian and the dog were transported to the appropriate hospitals for their injuries, he said, with the person transported as a priority one. According to Maryland protocols, a priority one patient is defined as a “critically ill or injured person requiring immediate attention; unstable patients with life-threatening injury or illness.”

Police closed Longdraft Road from Clopper Road to Golden Post Lane following the incident. As of 10 a.m., Longdraft Road had been reopened, according to Alert Montgomery.

Another pedestrian was struck shortly after 9 a.m. in the vicinity of Woodglen Drive and Edson Lane in North Bethesda, according to Piringer. The pedestrian was transported to Suburban Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police radio transmissions.

Piringer said Thursday morning there were no updates on the condition of the two pedestrians. No information on the identity of the pedestrians was provided.

The incidents follow two recent deaths of pedestrians in the county. On Monday night, Dinora Aleman Amaya, 30, of Germantown was hit and killed in Gaithersburg by the driver of a 2019 Honda Civic traveling southbound and approaching Kentlands Boulevard, police said Wednesday in a statement. Police added that the driver remained at the scene and is “cooperating with investigators.”

On Sept. 30, Dominique Mwepu, 53, was hit and killed at the intersection of Frederick Road and High Point Drive in Gaithersburg. As of Thursday morning, a GoFundMe set up for his family had raised more than $13,350 of its $20,000 goal.
