Some refugee families that were facing eviction from the Enclave apartments in the White Oak neighborhood of Silver Spring are likely to be able to stay in their homes, according to Christine Hong, Montgomery County’s chief of Services to End and Prevent Homelessness.
Hong said during County Executive Marc Elrich’s press briefing on Wednesday that county officials are working with the state and the apartment complex to help all the families affected stay at the Enclave. Based on preliminary information, Hong said county officials believe about 10 families will qualify to stay. Hong said the situation is still evolving and details are being finalized.
“Our goal is to prevent all families from becoming unhoused,” Hong said.
Hong said that some families may not be able to afford to continue living at the Enclave and that a lack of affordable housing in Montgomery County may cause some refugee families to seek housing elsewhere.
