‘Sound of a machine gun’: police investigating homicide of man in Silver Spring park

911 caller reported hearing about 20 gunshots, gun shell casings on road

The shooting death of a man in a Silver Spring park on Tuesday night is being investigated as a homicide, according to a statement Wednesday morning from Montgomery County police.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Seek Lane for a report of a shooting, police said in the statement. The location is near Rolling Terrace Elementary School.

According to police radio transmissions, people in the neighborhood called 911 to report hearing the “sound of a machine gun” and about 20 gunshots ring out. One caller reported seeing multiple shell casings in the road.

Shortly after the initial 911 calls, a caller reported a shooting in Seek Lane Neighborhood Park and saw two men running in the park, according to radio transmissions. An officer reported over the radio that they heard “screaming” in the park.

Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper chest and performed “life-saving measures,” police said in radio transmissions and the news release.

The man was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release.

No information about the suspect or the identity of the victim was released by police as of Wednesday morning.
