The Japanese restaurant that serves its food on a conveyor belt system, Kura Revolving Sushi, will open the doors at its first Maryland location in Federal Plaza in Rockville on Saturday, according to a newsletter from the restaurant.
Starting at noon on opening day, diners at the eatery at 12266 Rockville Pike can try sushi plates for $3.70 per plate. Other plate prices will vary, according to the newsletter.
The opening comes one year after North Bethesda-based realty company, Federal Realty, announced that the restaurant would be opening in the former location of Chuy’s, a Tex-Mex restaurant. The former restaurant was split into two new dining additions including Torchy’s Tacos, which opened Wednesday.
According to the newsletter, Kura Revolving Sushi will be in soft opening mode Saturday through Monday from noon to 9 p.m. each day.
After the soft opening, the restaurant will begin its grand opening festivities on Tuesday with a giveaway of a commemorative Rockville, Maryland sticker to the first 300 dine-in guests, the newsletter said.
Then from Tuesday to Oct. 10, the first 50 dine-in guests each day who show a Kura Sushi Rewards Member code will receive a towel, that when rolled up, looks like a sushi roll, according to the newsletter.
To participate in the soft and grand opening, guests must be added to the waitlist, which is only available to join at the restaurant’s doors, according to the newsletter.
In addition, beginning Tuesday the restaurant will follow its regular business hours, which are Monday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9:30 p.m.
When the Japanese eatery opens, it will be the first Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in Maryland, according to an October press release announcing the restaurant. There are two locations in the region, one in Washington, D.C. and the other in Tysons, Virginia.
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar’s menu features a plethora of nigiri, sushi rolls, ramen, udon noodles, mochi and Taiyaki ice cream. At the restaurant, diners can also get soft drinks delivered to them by the eatery’s food delivery robot, Kur-B the KuraBot.
Federal Realty owns several shopping centers in the county including Federal Plaza, Pike & Rose, Congressional Plaza and Montrose Crossing in Rockville and The Shops at Wildwood and Bethesda Row in Bethesda.
