One family, including seven adults, one child and one dog, were displaced from their home in Gaithersburg Wednesday morning, after an electrical fire broke out in their garage, according to social media posts by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue [MCFRS] officials.

At about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, MCFRS crews responded to a two-story home on Duvall Street off of West Deer Park in Gaithersburg and encountered “heavy fire conditions,” MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on social media. All occupants were able to exit the house and in pictures Piringer shared show fire extending through the roof of the garage.

Roughly 55 firefighters fought the blaze and had the fire extinguished by roughly 6:40 a.m., Piringer wrote.

According to Piringer, the fire was believed to have been “electrical in nature, vehicle power cord plugged into outlet (extension cords, vehicle battery systems, etc in area)” and caused roughly $100,000 in damage.
