Chido’s Tex-Mex Grill celebrated the opening of its downtown Silver Spring on Tuesday, according to a social media post from the restaurant.
The eatery, located at 931 Ellsworth Drive, is in the heart of downtown Silver Spring in the former location of The Eleanor, an American restaurant that had a mini bowling alley and arcade games.
Chido’s is a family-owned business and Horacio Romero, manager of Chido’s in Silver Spring, told MoCo360 on Wednesday that the Silver Spring location is the restaurant’s second. The first, in Laurel, opened eight years ago. (The business also had a location in Owings Mill, Maryland, but it closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Romero said.)
Romero said that the Silver Spring opening has been “amazing.”
“We are super happy. Yesterday was a big opening. It was full,” he said.
Chido’s held a soft opening beginning Friday for friends and family.
About 300 people can be seated in the restaurant, Romero said, which has a large bar, booth-style and table seating, an outdoor dining space and a private dining room.
The restaurant is decorated with art and tiles from Mexico and the private dining space is separated into its room by walls that resemble a traditional Mexican home.

The eatery is open for brunch, lunch and dinner. Brunch dishes range in price from $9 to $15 and include churro pancakes, chilaquiles and chorizo enchiladas, according to the menu. For lunch, Chido’s offers burrito bowl specials from $10 for a veggie bowl to $15 for a shrimp bowl.
The restaurant also has an extensive dinner menu that includes such traditional Mexican fare as fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, burritos and quesadillas, as well as dishes from other Latin countries such as the Bandeja Paisa from Colombia and a Spanish-style Cazuela de Mariscos (seafood casserole). Main dishes range in price from $11 to $28, according to the menu.
Chido’s also has a menu for children age 8 and younger with all dishes priced at $8.90.
For dessert, diners can munch on sweets such as flan, tres leches cake, sopapillas and churros.
Aside from food, Chido’s offers an array of alcoholic beverages such as 12- and 24-ounce Margaritas ($10-$20), cocktails, sangria and draft and bottled beers.
Chido’s is open Monday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Friday from 11 a.m. to midnight, on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to midnight, and on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
