Man dies after being struck by SUV in Silver Spring

Death is second pedestrian fatality in county this week

A pedestrian died in a local hospital after he was struck by a SUV on Thursday night on East Franklin Avenue in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police.

Officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded at about 7:20 p.m. to the area of East Franklin Avenue and Seminole Street for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck, police said Thursday night in a statement.

MCFRS crews transported a man in critical condition to a local hospital where he later died, according to the statement. The identity of the pedestrian was not provided.

“The driver of the striking vehicle, a Honda CRV, remained on scene,” the statement said. No other information about the collision was provided.

Police are investigating the collision and will release the man’s name following the proper notification of the next of kin, the statement said.

The death marks the second pedestrian fatality this week in the county.

Pedestrian Jose Rene Del Cid Ramos, 61, was struck and killed by a 2010 Nissan Maxima Tuesday night in Rockville, according to police.

Just before 9:15 p.m., Rockville City Police officers and MCFRS crews responded to the intersection of Hungerford Drive and Beall Avenue for reports of a collision involving the Nissan Maxima and a pedestrian, according to a Thursday statement from county police.
